Underground beats with progressive jazz: that’s the modern cocktail the formation RinneRadio mixes. Drum ‘n bass rhythms pulsate while ambient soundscapes and violin and saxophone sounds fill up the cocktail. But there is more: scratching, sequencers and samplers. And every now and then traditional Finnish or even Lapponian vocal contributions. The members of the Finnish formation have accumulated a discography that takes your breath away. Almost every year they released an album. But still the underground status of RinneRadio, a initiative of clarinettist Tapani Rinne and drummer Edward Vesala, has been more or less maintained. As early as 1990 the band made their debut with their innovative approach to jazz and an album an since then RinnRadio have made themselves known. Especially in Finland, so it’s time we should discover them.
