José Fernández Torres was born in 1958 in a - one might say - guitarists’ nest. His grandfather was a celebrity, so was his uncle, and his father made a furore as Tomate. That’s why ‘Tomatito’ became the nickname of little José Fernandez Torres. At first Tomatito wanted to follow in Paco de Lucía’s tracks. But along the way the guitarist developed his own flavour - and a personal style resulted from that. Since then he has been performing with greats like Elton John and Frank Sinatra and he played in movies by Taylor Hackford (Devil’s Advocate) and Carlos Saura. What the name of the last movie was again? Flamenco of course.…
