It took more than five years before Nu Soul star Rahsaan Patterson, who was named after saxophonist Rashaan Roland Kirk, made himself heard again. The singer, who ranks among singers like D’Angelo, Eric Bénet, Erykah Badu and Angie Stone, has finally made a new album again. With After Hours he makes it clear that, musically speaking, he still has a lot to say. Patterson stands for wicked soul and funky R&B with a sensual ballad thrown in from time to time. If his first two albums - Rahsaan Patterson (’97) and Love in Stereo (’99) - were questions, After Hours is the answer. The singer grew up in a devote and musical family in New York. Before he started a solo career, he worked with jazz rock veterans Stanley Clarke and George Duke. He also wrote songs for teenage stars like Tevin Campell and Brandy.
