Trumpeter Randy Brecker, the older brother of Artist in Residence Michael Brecker, was touring through Europe with his college big band when he decided to drop out of school in order to become a professional musician. After a few months’ stay in Europe he returned to New York, where he joined the innovating band Blood, Sweat & Tears. In 1969, after a period of straight ahead jazz with Horace Silver and Thad Jones / Mel Lewis, he started, together with his brother Michael, the jazz rock band Dreams, a ‘finger exercise’ for the legendary Brecker Brothers Band, a group that would be founded in 1974. Randy Brecker / Bill Evans Soulbop continues where de Brecker Brothers Band left off. Brecker and the virtuoso saxophonist Bill Evans, who can boast a shining career of his own (Miles Davis, John McLaughlin a.o.) are supported by an all star line up including bassist Victor Bailey, guitarist Hiram Bullock and drummer Steve Smith.
