In a career of 25 years the guitarist, composer and bandleader Bill Frisell released about 20 CD’s as a leader and played on at least 150 albums as a featured sideman of other musicians. Next to that he belongs to those rare musicians who transcendent the possibilities of their instruments. The trio with saxophonist Joe Lovano and drummer Paul Motian stands out as one of the most creative bands in recent jazz history. Petra Haden is the daughter of bassist and living legend Charlie Haden. From a child Petra was submerged in a rich, musical bath that would determine her future musical career. Soon she developed a talent for imitating with her voice any musical instrument she heard. Petra Haden also plays the violin. Frisell approached her after a show in Seattle and the duo soon decided to record an album with songs they both liked. You are wondering what that sounds like? North Sea Jazz 2004 has the answer.
