Jazz vocalist Denise Jannah was born in Suriname and spent part of her youth in the typical town of Zeist, where her father studied theology. She herself swopped her law studies for the Hilversum conservatory, where she learnt everything she needed to know to become a singer. In 1995 Denise Jannah was the first Dutch artist that was signed by the famous American jazz label Blue Note. That resulted in I Was Born In Love With You, a CD that got a lot of national ánd international attention, because America was more than eager to meet the Dutch jazz diva. Next to jazz Jannah has a lot more talents. She played parts in the musicals Joe and Ain’t misbehavin’ and bedazzled audiences as one of the stars in the soul musical RESPECT. Earlier this year she released the cd Gedicht-Gezongen, an album full of sung poetry for which she wrote the musical herself.
