Some artists reach the top the easy way, others have to follow a bumpy road with a lot of by-paths. Soul singer Anthony Hamilton was so unlucky to belong to the last category. Unlucky? The singer himself views the hard road he had to go as the perfect preparation to deal with what he has achieved now. Although his record companies went bankrupt, so completed CD’s didn’t get released, and a top album like XTC (1996) wasn’t judged by its true merits by the media – Hamilton didn’t give up. It wasn’t until his guest appearance on a Nappy Roots CD that he was discovered by the world. His gritty, sexy contribution to the song Po’Folks eventually led to his own successful album Comin’ From Where I’m From. In spite of his success Hamilton remains modest: “I’m thankful I was standing in the way when God was throwing out musical talent”.
