In their programme Kinda Dukish the wayward jazz trio of Ab Baars presents its own arrangements of the music of the great composer/inspirer Duke Ellington. Both well-know and semi-obscure pieces, but also characteristic parts from composition or strains of melodies are taken out of context by the brilliant musician that Ab Baars is considered to be. They are plucked bare and serve as a point of departure for new compositions. This approach is very typical of a trio that might not be able to avoid the traditional schism between the rhythm section and the soloist and therefore opts for a looser way of playing, to snipe at this phenomena as a starting point. Especially for this project the trio will be expanded with trombonist and Ellington specialist Joost Buis. Last year the group of clarinettist and tenor saxophonist Ab Baars, bassist Wilbert de Joode and drummer Martin van Duynhoven commemorated their 10th anniversary with an extensive tour and the CD Ab Baars Trio-Party at the Bimhuis.
