Zap Mama consists of five female singers (four of them will travel to The Hague), who are capable of producing the most miraculous sounds. Their performance is expressive, theatrical and full of humour. These five ladies complete each other perfectly. Zairian/Belgian lead singer Marie Daulne has always described the music of her band as a mixture of music of the Pygmies, human beat-box and African and Arabian sounds. In short: a trip around the world. After a break of several years, the colourful quintet is back with a new album called Ancestry In Progress, which still shows their quest for adventure. Daulne’s stay in New York brought her new inspiration resulting in radical changes in musical directions. For on this new journey, Zap Mama totally focuses on hip-hop and neo-soul, featuring guest performances by Erykah Badu, Bilal, The Roots and Common!
