Top-vocalist Trijntje Oosterhuis heralded, together with jazz sextet The Houdini's, Amsterdam Sinfonietta and conductor Henk Meutgeert, the year 2003 with a special mini-tour along the important concert halls of Holland. The registration can be heard on the CD Strange Fruit. Standards like Don’t Explain, God Bless the Child, All of Me, The Man I Love and Good Morning Heartache were sung in a soulful way. In a short time the album reached platinum status. Inspiration and respect for the past made the musicians create modern, fresh arrangements cushioning Trijntje’s voice in a comfortable way. In this concert three different musical worlds meet in an anthology of Billie Holiday songs and pieces of George Gershwin: the classical approach of the string orchestra, The jazz of The Houdini’s and, of course, the pop-like vocal interpretations of Trijntje herself.
