Denys Baptiste is a musician of the new generation who is deeply interested in Coltrane’s heritage. He combines his political awareness with elements from the rap culture. Back home in England he has won about every prize that can be won. The name of the project Let Freedom Ring! was taken off the Denys Baptiste album with the same title. The music on that CD was based on rhythmical variations in the speech I have a Dream of Dr. Martin Luther King (as did Coltrane earlier with an other speech of King). The poetry of the author and social commentator Ben Okri is also at the foundation of this special album. Denys, who was born in London in 1969, played with big British musicians like Jason Rebello and Julian Joseph. With his political aware music he continues where American musicians like Max Roach and Charles Mingus left off.
