The name Tony Joe White is probably better known among fellow-musicians than to the general public. For this talented songwriter has written many song that became smash hits after they had been recorded by world famous artists like Elvis Presley, Dusty Springfield, Hank Williams jr. and Tina Turner. Everybody knows the song Rainy Night in Georgia, that was covered more than a hundred times, but few of us know that it was written by White. In 1969 Tony Joe White, born from parents that were part Cherokee, recorded his successful debut album Black and White, including the hit-single Polk Salad Annie. The albums that followed were less well received. His performance on North Sea Jazz will prove not only that White is an excellent composer, but a great musician as well.
