The Bad Plus is one of the hottest little bands of the moment. This absolutely original American trio, that effortlessly succeeds in turning the music of Abba, Kurt Cobain, Blondie or The Pixies into acoustic jazz, made it worldwide with the debut album These Are The Vistas. After a world tour it was time for Reid Anderson (bass), Ethan Iverson (piano) en David King (drums) to record a second album, Give. Their surprisingly wayward compositions and almost insane interpretations of covers (Knowing Me, Knowing You) they made an impression on the world. Whether their songs sound beautiful or not sometimes remains to be seen – the music is often clogged up with dissonants. All these weird, well found, almost corny turnings, brutal statements and the hot, groovy interaction make the listener’s mouth drop. The glory of The Bad Plus lies in their own, hand-crafted idiom.
