Michel Camillo’s work was crowned last year with a Grammy for the best latin jazz album. The pianist received this prize for Live at the Blue Note, a dubbel album where, once again, his perfect mix of jazz and latin rhythms stands out. He performs miracles with his trio, a thing he can also do in a big band line up or in solo piano recitals, because this musician really is a jack of all trades. The knowledge that this Santo Domingo born musician is equally at home in classical music, as his album Concerto for Piano & Orchestra, Suite for Piano, Strings and Harp & Caribe in 2002 proved, isn’t widely spread. But that shouldn’t be a surprise if you were to compose your first song at the age of five. Camilo will perform with bassist Charles Flores and master drummer Horacio ‘El Negro’ Hernandez.
