The Koorenhuis from The Hague, the co-ordinating organization of a.o. de Stedelijke Muziekschool (a school of music) and the Centrum voor Kunstzinnige Vorming (a centre for art education), traditionally presents various ensembles at the North Sea Jazz Festival. Because: talent shows itself at an early age, doesn’t it? At he world music department of the Koorenhuis salsa music has been taught for some years now. The salsa orchestras led by teacher Doy Salsbach were extended with a band for children: the Mambo Kids. Five girls and seven boys varying in age from 13 up to 20 present a swinging Latin repertoire of salsa, meringue, cha-cha-cha, calypso, cumbia, samba and other rhythmical genres. The band performed at several festivals like Gigs for Kids at North Sea Jazz, the Dunya Festival, the Pasar Malam Besar and the Wereld Kinderfestivals. Next to the Mambo Kids the Dutch Jazz Kids will present themselves. This group includes promising jazz talent of the Koorenhuis and other Dutch schools of music.
