The Paris based multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Sergent Garcia mixes salsa, reggae, hip-hop and jazz in a style he calls ‘salsamuffin’. In 1997 he and his septet, a band with the beautiful name Locos del Barrio, released the album Poquito Quema’o, a CD that, three years later would be released in the rest of Europe and America. It was the beginning of an unprecedented success. Sergent Garcia, a musician whose real name is Bruno and is of Spanish decent, has been working on what you might call a second career for years now. In the still flourishing French punk scene he had already made a name for himself with the band Ludwig von 88. But even then he already was a big fan of Latin music. The mix experiments he did then, came in handy in his second musical career.
