Rickie Lee Jones is back! At the end of the seventies the jazzy singer/songwriter had her breakthrough with a title-less debut album and the hit Chuck E’s In Love. After a couple of albums of varying quality the singer disappeared for a while and it wasn’t until six years later that she came back with the album The Evening Of My Best Day. This CD got good reviews. There were poetical lyrics, beautiful, lofty ballads ánd political statements, because politics is one of Rickie’s big sources of inspiration. She has, for example, put all her frustration about President Bush and the anti-terrorism act, The Patriot Act passed in 2001, in the song Ugly Man. For the rest it is a pleasant album that navigates between jazz, blues and country. And Rickie Lee Jones’ voice is beautifully hoarse and heart-rending.
