The compositions of Raymond Scott are well known thanks to their endless recycling as soundtracks for cartoons like Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, after they had been ingeniously been cut and pasted by Carl Stalling, musical director of the animation department of Warner Bros in the 1940's. The Raymond Scott Orchestrette takes these compositions as a starting point, but performs them in a contemporary way. Because that was the only instruction that producer and Scott-expert Irwin Chusid gave to the seven members of the Raymond Scott Orchestrette: I don’t want you to copy the music of the original Scott Quintet. That would be useless, for Scott, a real control-freak, might not approve. The band, which plays the arrangements of pianist Wayne Barker and accordionist Wil Holshouser, has opted for radical reconstructions of the idiosyncratic compositions of the master that Raymond Scott was.
