These two young, German reedmen don't confine themselves to one instrument: Steffen Schorn and his musical partner Claudio Puntin are comfortable on a full range of saxes and clarinets. The duo, which exists since 1991, guarantees a remarkably fresh sound. Both musicians belong to the established names of the German jazz scene and have had equally impressive careers. Furthermore they are in great demand: because of their expert contributions they play all over the world. Clarinettist Puntin whose style regularly refers to Jewish klezmer music, leads several groups. The auto-didactical saxophonist, bass-clarinettist and composer Schorn plays in many big bands, but uses this duo form to express his improvisational ideas. Together they abandon all traditional jazz forms. So far the duo has won several prizes for a wayward style of music that the media characterized as 'symbiotic acrobatics'.
