The Dutch singer Francien van Tuinen is going through a beautiful musical growth. Her self-produced third album A Perfect Blue Day sounds more powerful and is more personal than ever. The fresh swing of this singer from the Dutch province of Groningen has set foot in the borderland of pop, jazz, and laid back lounge – maybe even fusion – and her voice impresses with her clear intonation. Without any frills or embellishments she sings her own compositions, which are light-footed, but certainly aren’t sung without feeling. Thanks to her new band, she has a strong new sound. Van Tuinen studied at the Conservatory of Groningen. In 1997 she won the Nationaal Vocalisten Jazz Concours and sang at North Sea Jazz three times before. She also did a Gershwin on My Mind theatre-tour.
