Jaco Pastorius was the first jazz virtuoso on the electrical bass and one of the great pioneers of fusion. He didn’t only introduce the world to the fretless bass, but also proved that a lot of rhythmical and harmonic possibilities could be added to the instrument. In addition to that Pastorius grew to be one of the most talented composers of the 20th century. He was one of the key members of Weather Report, the band of Wayne Shorter and Joe Zawinul, which is considered to be thé fusion group of all time. Regretfully Pastorius died in a tragic way. The Jaco Pastorius Big Band featuring Richard Bona led by Peter Graves play a tribute to a mega talent who had to leave the jazz world much too soon. A well picked choice, because big band jazz was Pastorius’ love of his life.
