Joe Lovano, who commands all modern jazz styles, is considered to be one of the most important tenor players of the moment. His musical career started in the band of organ player Lonnie Smith and the bands of Jack McDuff and Woody Herman. Then he joined the Mel Lewis Orchestra, a band he recorded six albums with. His international breakthrough came when he played in the quartet of guitarist John Scofield, with whom he toured for some years and recorded a couple of albums with. His latest album for Blue Note, I’m All for You – Ballad Songbook is a warm tribute to the ballad. For this project he called in ‘the father of all contemporary jazz pianists’: Hank Jones. This representative of the first generation that started to play bebop considered this an offer he couldn’t refuse, since this jazz veteran knows all the most beautiful standards and ballads by heart.
