Some six years ago Clark Terry held trombone player Conrad Herwig to be the big discovery. In the mean while, the New Yorker has proved himself as a leader on roughly thirteen albums, including the Grammy-nominated The Latin Side of John Coltrane with guests including Eddie Palmieri, Danilo Perez and Dave Valentin. His most recent Criss Cross Jazz recordings are Land of Shadow, Hieroglyphica, Unseen Universe, Osteology and Heart of Darkness. The latter album earned him four and a half stars in Down Beat Magazine's review pages. Last year he was voted number one in the category Talent Deserving Wider Recognition in the 2002 Downbeat Jazz Critic's Poll. Apart from his solo work he is in constant demand as a sideman in, for example, the former Joe Henderson Sextet, Tom Harrell's Septet and Big Band, and the Joe Lovano Nonet. What's more, he also works as a teacher at prestigious conservatories around the world.
