William Royce Scaggs, a.k.a. Boz Scaggs, makes a name for himself as guitarist in the early years of the Steve Miller Band. Driven by his ambition he quits the band to start a solo-career. At first this only succeeds little by little. The first solo-albums by Scaggs are hardly able to find their way to a large audience, in spite of support by the press. Scaggs has to wait for his real commercial break-through until 1976, when his album Silk Degrees is born. The sequels, Down Two Then Left and Middle Man are a success. Still a silence of eight years follows, and during that time Scaggs only sometimes performs in a nightclub, before he goes back to making records. The singer/songwriter is especially adored by his fans for his blues and R&B-oriented music that goes back to his roots - he grew up in Texas in the middle of blues, rock 'n roll and folk. His last album but one Dig is in his own words his ‘best work of his life in music‘. Though with his latest CD Scaggs suprised both friend and foe. But Beautiful is a whole lot more 'sweet and mellow' than we are used to ; Scaggs sing the most romantic standards from the American songbook with a jazz quartet.
