For quite some time now Curtis Stigers, especially known as heart-breaker and pop idol during the nineties, has been working in the direction of jazz. Back to his old love, for Curtis is most known for his successful pop debut (the hit-song I Wonder Why) which was sold by the millions. Determinated to develop further musically he focussed completely on jazz. He broke his old record contract with his old label in a quarrel over artistic freedom, and worked on albums of Al Green and Gene Harris among others. Last-mentioned already taught Stigers in his younger years about the unlimited possibilities of jazz. The singer/sax player, whose outstanding voice can tear like his saxophone, gained a lot of respect for his album Secret Heart (Concord) that was released last year. Besides some jazz standards and original songs he plunged into the songbook of singer/songwriters like Randy Newman and Ron Sexsmith. A wayward choice, which gained him good musical reviews. It is highly recommended to listen to the new paths Stigers has taken.
