For the past fifteen years, the François Bourassa Trio, one of Canada's finest, with pianist Bourassa, bass player Guy Boisvert and drummer Yves Boisvert, has been creating a furor in the high North of Canada with their energetic contemporary jazz. Since winning a talent competition at the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the group has been doing very well. They play all over the world and have performed with masters such as Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Abbey Lincoln and Patricia Barber. The trio has five albums to its name, all of which were received well by the Canadian press, as well as being nominated for various prizes, including the Canadian Juno Award. Leader and composer François Bourassa studied music with composer George Russell and pianist Fred Hersch, who once said that 'this real band plays at the highest ensemble level - dynamically, technically and emotionally.' The well-known soprano and tenor sax player André Léroux, who is one the best jazz instrumentalists of the contemporary Canadian jazz scene, supplies an even more powerful group sound.
