A small band with a big sound. This is the duo combination of Esmée Olthuis (alt saxophone) and Albert van Veenendaal (piano). A year and a half ago these two self-willed Dutch musicians combined their years of experience and their improvisational talents. With their own compositions, characterized by a high level of improvisation, playfulness, subtlety, powerful melodies and a lot of energy, the duo explores the possibilities of sound and ensemble without resorting to clichés. The music itself leads the way, the musicians are the interpreters and the audience is the witness. Their first CD This Is to Say, released on the Try Tone label, includes crystal-clear musical structures with plenty of room for intuition and improvisation.
