Roy Hargrove is also a welcome guest at the North Sea Jazz Festival, where he debuted at the age of 17. The energetic American trumpet player is one of the series of today's young musicians that stand out most. Taken under the wing of masters such as Wynton Marsalis, a score of memorable shows to his name and a handful of CDs, Hargrove can already look back on 15 years of performances and recordings as a professional. A period in which he kept switching his musical style; from straightforward jazz, bebop, blues to Afro-Cuban Latin music or ballads with a string orchestra, like on his latest production Moment to Moment. Styles such as hip hop, soul and r&b also pique his interest, as his collaborations on records by Erykah Badu, Common and D'Angelo show. Hargrove has scored a regular spit in D'Angelo's soul band The Soultronics.
