The career of Triest born trumpet and flugelhorn player Enrico Rava spans some forty years, in which he made more than ninety records, of which twenty-five with his own groups. This patriarch of Italian jazz made a name for himself in the international scene when he started playing in Turin in the sixties, a watering hole for American musicians at the time. Later he moved to New York where he played with, among others, Carla Bley's Jazz Composers Orchestra, Cecil Taylor and Charlie Haden. Rava's performances are a reflection of his great admiration for Miles Davis and Chet Baker. Which he not to say that he hasn't developed an attractive, warm style of his own. Recently Rava was rewarded with the prestigious Jazzpar prize in Copenhagen for his work. His quintet is manned by the prime of the young Italian jazz scene: Gianluco Petrella (trombone), Stefano Bolloni (piano), Rosario Bonaccorso (bass) and Roberto Gatto (drums).
