The future looks bright with the new crop of soul artists. The sensual and often autobiographical soul music, mixed with jazz and hip hop influences, keeps finding its way to the more general public. Another sensation on the nu-soul frontlines is the young American singer Donnie, from the same set as India Arie. His voice is often compared to Stevie Wonder's, one of his main sources of inspiration, as are namesake Donnie Hathaway and relative Marvin Gaye. Both of his parents are preachers, so it was logical that Donnie first learned the art of singing in the church choir. He recently released his first album The Colored Section, which those in the know have already termed a classic. Donnie's incredible live shows distinguish themselves from other nu-soul acts for his directness and warm personality.
