Alto-sax player Piet Noordijk is a Sinatra-fan to the backbone. How deeply rooted that love is, can be heard in his enthusiastic project Piet Noordijk plays Sinatra. In co-operation with guitarist Jesse van Ruller, drummer John Engels, bass player Harry Emmery, pianist/arranger Rob van Bavel and Gustav Klimt String Quartet typical Sinatra-songs as Come fly with me, Nancy and In the Wee Small Hours are literally reanimated. Piet plays Sinatra is a logical sequel to the successful release Piet plays Bird. In the early fifties Noordijk got hooked on the saxophone, particularly inspired by his idol Charlie Parker. Noordijk sees a similarity between Parker en Sinatra. According to him Sinatra has been just as important to jazz as Parker. He is mainly intending Sinatras timing, swing and way of phrasing. Remarkable and debatable! But we are curious to see. Because one thing is certain: whether it concerns the music of Charlie Parker or Sinatra or anything else beautiful and original, Noordijk will give his all.
