Started as an occasional group, the formation Albers/Breuls/Janssen has grown into a close-knit crew. This fusion quintet excels at communicating, on the basis of a great deal of flexibility and insight. The contribution of versatile guitarist Eef Albers in particular has the effect of expanding their scope. The nationally and internationally known guitar ace, who dates back to Wim Overgauw's days, has really won his spurs in both jazz and rock (with, among others, Thijs van Leer). With his occasionally bizarre harmonic turns, unique melodic improvisations and a whole heap of distortion, he nudges the group towards jazz-rock. On the other hand, the input of the two wind players Leo Janssen (sax) and Ruud Breuls (trumpet) - who know one another from the Metropole Orkest - provides an acoustic aspect. The quintet, who play only their own compositions, is completed by the solid rhythm section supplied by top drummer Martijn Vink - known from The New Cool Collective and the Loet van der Lee quartet - and bassist Frans van Geest whom we also know from the Jesse van Ruller quintet.
