For over thirty years, guitarist John Abercrombie has been, to use a cliché, the best-kept secret in jazz guitar. And still he was always there - even in places you wouldn't expect him to be. In the late sixties he played in the legendary band Dreams, the precursor of the - as far as possible - even more legendary Brecker Brothers Band. And in the early seventies, during Billy Cobham's heyday, Abercrombie played in this drummer's formation, while albums like Crosswinds, Total Eclipse and Shabazz were recorded. After all this jazz rock, Abercrombie chose to switch to chamber music, which he was able to record for Manfred Eicher's ECM-label. At this edition of the North Sea Jazz Festival he will be playing with the ensemble (Mark Feldman on violin, Marc Johnson on bass and Joey Baron on drums) with which he recorded the celebrated production Cat 'n Mouse.
