The beautiful cross-over album Rickshaw Chase is the fruit of the co-operation between formation Bhedam and the Indian percussionists Manjunath and Udayraj. The music, taped within a few days in Bangalore - India after an inspiring stay of several weeks, blends the great richness of Indian rhythms and European jazz. According to initiator Mark Haanstra, who plays the fretless bass, this musical wedding gives birth to a new form of music, rich in emotion and persuasiveness. And that is correct: this international collective explores its mutual boundaries in a very natural fashion. Most band members know each other from other formations like violinist Oene van Geel's Mosaic, or Zapp!. A shared passion for non-Western influences and Indian rhythms made them search for a new sound without any rules.
