Portuguese fado at a jazz festival? It may seem strange, but when one realizes that fado is the Portuguese blues, one has to admit that placing Fernando Lameirinhas is not as misplaced as it seems. Fado is all about the "saudade", the homesickness and the desire for happiness that used to be, but will probably never return. When it comes to that Lameirinhas knows what he's singing about. In 1958 he fled from his native land, which was stooped under the Salazar regime. The singer first lived in Belgium, but for more than 20 years now he has been a proud inhabitant of Europe's free haven Amsterdam. At North Sea, he will play a selection from Água, a program filled with new pieces and old successes.
