The music of pianist Eric Watson contains many influences. Thelonious Monk, John Lewis and Mal Waldron for instance. Watson likes dark structures in his compositions, with a lyrical revival here and there. The American pianist, operating from Paris, has collaborated with musicians like Paul Motian, Steve Lacy, Ray Anderson, John Lindberg, Albert Mangelsdorff, Daniel Humaira and Linda Sharrock. Watson composes both jazz and classical pieces (including many ballets), but he also improvises quite often. His exceptional diversity makes him, together with his lyrical subtlety, an innovative musician. At this festival he will perform with his renewed trio, i.e. Claude Tchamitchian and Christophe Marguet on bass and drums.
