Bye-Ya! is one of the most swinging and fun contemporary Latin bands. With only one horn, an exception in latin music where the copper usually shines abundantly, this shows how difference can work. Five instrumentalists, the acclaimed trumpet player Jarmo Hoogendijk who is completely in his element in this band, the frequently asked percussionist Jens Kerkhoff with German roots, the enthusiastic finalist of the Andersen Jazz Award, pianist Randal Corsen from Curaçao, Latin baby-bass player Mick Paauwe and the Cuban Latin-drummer Liber Torriente Mirabal worked themselves up to a sweat for complex harmonies, exciting rhythms and inspirational improvisations. Bye-Ya!, founded in 1999 and scoring with its debut CD, offers a lyrical fusion of jazz and swinging Latin American and Afro-Cuban grooves.
