Mosaic is a collective of a new generation of musicians who are enthusiastically developing a new idiom and language of improvisation, drawing on various musical traditions. Violinist Oene van Geel (winner of the Andersen Jazz Awards and Dutch Jazz Competition a.o.), bass player Mark Haanstra, guitarist Wiek Hijmans and sax player Jorrit Dijkstra draw on a fairly endless palette of aural colors with clearly structured compositions and collective improvisations. Before Mosaic, the four band members played together in different formations such as Geel!, the Maarten Altena Ensemble, Dalgoo's Nieuwe Anatomie, Bhedam Osmosis and the American/Dutch formation Tonk.
