Trio Amuedo, Van Merwijk and Vierdag, consisting of guitarist Leonardo Amuedo, drummer Lucas van Merwijk and bass player Jeroen Vierdag, is an example of a perfect co-operation based on emotion. This spring it was audible at Amsterdam jazzclub Pompoen, where the musicians were guest-starring for several days, and on the CD Live in Amsterdam, which is a recording of these performances. The trio finds each other blindfolded in compositions, that are for the most part of Amuedos' hand, in a fashion that Walter Becker of Steely Dan describes as “the most satisfying live jazz I've experienced in a while’. “This is the coolest live jazz record I've heard in some time - It captures the magic of great improvising musicians at work in front of an appreciative audience in a fine sounding room” , according to Becker, who was present at the concert and wrote the liner-notes of the CD. Leonardo Amuedo was born in Uruguay and taught himself to play the guitar. As a professional musician he traveled to Europe at the beginning of the 90's, and was a frequently invited guest musician performing with Dulce Pontes, Laura Fygi, Michiel Borstlap and the Metropole Orchestra, amongst others. Jeroen Vierdag graduated with honors at the conservatory a few years ago and featured as regular bass player with Chris Hinze and the band of Saskia Laroo. Nowadays he is also working as a studio bass player. Lucas van Merwijk has earned his merits with his active role as drummer and percussionist. Time and again the readers of the Slagwerkkrant chose him as best jazz and fusion drummer of the Benelux. He is a teacher at both the Rotterdam and Sweelinck Conservatory, often works for radio and television and features on many CDs.
