A teacher introduces flute player Malik Mezzadri, born in French-Guinea, to western classical music. A world of Bach and Ravel reveals itself to him and Mezzadri decides to move to France to study at the conservatory of Marseille. Through the years his love for classical music dies and he becomes interested in jazz music. His talent is soon noticed while playing with a reggae formation. Offers from all corners of the Parisian music scene are made, but it is saxophone player Julien Loueau who takes him to another level when Mezzadri joins his Groove Gang – one of the most successful jazz formations in France. During that time Mezzadri develops his own style of improvisation, a very recognizable lyrical way of playing with a strong melodious touch. He establishes his name as a band leader with the Magic Malik Orchestra in the vanguard of French jazz, which always has been receptive of multicultural influences.
