Techno combined with soul and jazz. That's the cocktail the Detroit Innovators mix. Sound magician Carl Craig's beats are combined with singers Leon Ware's and Sandra St. Victor's soul ingredients and the Dox Orchestra's uplifting funky jazz grooves. With his Innerzone Orchestra, Detroit dance pioneer Carl Craig has shown before that he likes flirting with other styles. One could say he created an own musical world with his own label Planet E Communications, which stands for innovation and experiments. In 2001, Craig, who has been one of the world's most prominent dee-jays and producers for years, was no. 24 on Rolling Stone Magazine's list of most influential musicians. Singer Leon Ware is no unknown in the sultry world of soul. Ware hales from the era of Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway and Stevie Wonder, but has also earned his due by writing songs for Maxwell and Keb'Mo. His earlier work has been sampled frequently by rappers like Tupac, Ice Cube and A Tribe Called Quest. Recently, he could be viewed in the Netherlands in the music program Paradiso Life. Ware shares the stage with Sandra St.Victor who was soul band The Family Stand's lead singer until recently. She has toured with big names like Curtis Mayfield, Chaka Khan, Daryl Hall and Roy Ayers. It looks like she is developing into a true soul diva. Last year she released her second solo album, which was received well. The Dox Orchestra consists of Dutch musicians from different disciplines like soul, jazz, funk and hip hop. Under the directions of sax player Bart Suèr the orchestra will support Carl Craig and his guests.
