Ike Turner, born in Clarksdale, is quite active as talentscout for bluessingers in the Mississippi Delta and successful with his own band The Kings of Rhythm when he meets Annie Mae Bullock (Tina Turner) in a nightclub. By then he already played on BB Kings first number one hit 3 O'Clock Blues on piano and performed with Howlin' Wolf. He also provided prominent contributions on Jackie Brenstons Rocket 88 which is considered as one of the first rock 'n roll records. Later on Turner switched to guitar. Turner and Tina Turner married and got contracted by the Sue-label. With The Ike & Tina Turner Revue together with the female trio The Ikettes the married couple builds up quite a reputation as one of the most dynamic duo's from the black music. In the early seventies, after years of touring and recording, Ike and Tina went on operating separately. While Tina goes on solo, Ike Turner dives into te blues again and works together with his Rhythm of Kings with artists as Jimi Hendrix. Also many famous artists (Beach Boys, Frank Zappa, Marvin Gaye, Prince and Stevie Wonder) recorded their albums in his studio. Turner who takes care of keyboards, guitar and vocals in his nine-strong formation has released another record not a long time ago. Here and Now is the title of this album on which Turner revives his great love rhythm & blues and the boogiewoogie.
