The classically schooled pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba from Havana played with the world-traveling Cuban company Orquesta Aragon for a long time before forming his own group The Grupo Proyecto. He performed in Europe a great deal with the latter. In bass player Charlie Haden he found someone who gave him the necessary support, who had the right contacts and who made sure he had shows at important festivals like Montreal and Montreux. The Cuban Latin pianist's star is rising since he gained the chance to release records with royal purveyor Blue Note, with whom he signed a contract in the early '90s. After this, the musician went on making scores of beautiful records.
