Tenor saxophone player Yuri Honing, representative of the younger generation of Dutch jazz musicians who has been around since the beginning of the nineties, is presenting his newest project Memory Lane at this festival. It is an homage to Honings' inspiration in his teens. In an unprecedented accessible repertoire for the saxophone player Honing this time stresses the romantic, lyrical side of his play, arranged by Henk Meutgeert and Rob Horsting. Honing also uses the soprano sax for the first time in years, in a repertoire of known and well-known works by artists like Billy Joel, Herbie Hancock and Pat Metheny. Last year the sax player brought his CD Seven to the attention at the Festival. This album contains recordings of lauded musicians like pianist Paul Bley, bass player Gary Peacock and drummer Paul Motian. Honing, described as 'Dutch Saxman, trying out unusual material in a post-bop vernacular' in The Penguin Guide To Jazz, will play with an extensive ensemble conducted by Henk Meutgeert: flute player Eline van Esch, clarinet player Maarten Ornstein, horn player Roel Koster, violinist Keiko Iwate, cellist Fred Pot, bass player Frans van der Hoeven, pianist Achim Kaufmann and drummer Joost Lijbaart.
