In 1996 the two French pianists Stephan Oliva and François Raulin decide to join forces. They form a sextet, with common denominator their interest in contemporary jazz by pianist Lennie Tristano. With this band they scout his works in all variations. Oliva and Raulin are gifted, modern pianists and accompanied by a band of two saxes, guitar and double bass they find each other blindfolded in the music. A while ago the Oliva-Raulin Sextet released the album Tristano, and one can hear just how much the music of the in 1978 deceased Tristano still influences contemporary young pianists and serves as an inexhaustible source of ideas.
