Ain't nothing but the funk in Dawn Silva's life. As an original member of George Clinton's funk group Brides of Funkenstein where gospel-like harmony singing was foremost, Clinton's p-funk formations Parliament/Funkadelic plus the P-Funk All Stars and as a member of Sly & The Family Stone, Silva surrounded herself with funk music early on. The vocalist recently released her own record: All My Funky Friends. With, among others, New School Funk-producer D'La Vance and hornsman Fred Wesley, she presents all that she learned during her seven years with funkateers Clinton and Stone. As a young girl growing up in Sacramento she listened to music by Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Donny Hathaway, The O'Jays and The Temptations. She wanted nothing more than to be a singer and dancer and practiced every day in the garage with her sisters. A year later she was asked to audition as a background vocalist for Sly Stone, and that was only the beginning. At North Sea she will be playing with the energetic funk band Seven Eleven, and will be receiving special guests, including her old Parliament/Funkenstein-colleague Jeanette Washington.
