Candy Dulfer; the girl next door grew into a sax diva with international attitude. Recently American super star Prince asked the saxophone player to re-join him on his tour of American jazz clubs and theatres, resulting in a more jazzy style he is presenting nowadays. This is audible on his CD The Rainbow Children. Candy is a musician who already shared studios and stages with a lot of big names. Maceo Parker, Van Morrison, Patti Labelle, Aretha Franklin, Blondie and Dave Stewart; they once lined up to play with the attractive musician. In Japan and The United States she is immensely popular and performed on all the major TV shows. Still she keeps both feet on the ground and tightly manages her band Funky Stuff. Since some years she has stormed the Statenhal during North Sea Jazz with danceable funk, which most certainly is, even though sour critics review her work as too poppy or commercial, the best jazz-export product The Netherlands has got. The strong-headed saxophone playing girl from the typical Dutch village Broek in Waterland, who started in the local drum band and once got to warm the audience up for Madonna's concert in the soccer stadium De Kuip (Feyenoord) in Rotterdam, has grown into a woman we can be proud of.
