It started out as a remedy against polio, but would prove to be his greatest merit. St. Louis' born David Sanborn began to play the saxophone as a child and worked with Albert King in his teens. Then he played with pianist Gil Evans' band, where he could really develop his talent. Within a short period of time Sanborn made a name for himself in the circuit, especially after he made his own recordings during the mid-seventies. The saxophone player received Grammy's for his albums Voyeur and Double Vision and collaborated with people like Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, The Eagles, Stevie Wonder and David Bowie. His greatest strength lies in his passionate sound, his 'howling' and his squeaking high notes. His interpretations based on emotion and feeling, are also very typical of his style, thus distinguishable from imitators. David Sanborn is one of those musicians that have always been true to themselves, throughout a long and elaborate career. Sanborn has everything under control. He is master of fusion jazz and knows how to bring it with the necessary blood, sweat and tears. Furthermore he is open to genres like R&B, Hip Hop and Pop, which really diversify his music.
