Every week pianist Uri Caine took his a self-made composition with him to Bernard Pfeiffer, the piano teacher emigrated from France to the United States and who taught Caine more than just playing the piano. Pfeiffer showed his student how to deconstruct a piece completely and then rearrange it with changed melodies, rhythms and harmonies. These lessons were the starting point of the fame Caine gained in the past five years. Caine shows himself a master in deconstructing music of classical composers like Bach and Mahler, just so to rearrange it into something unique. But long before these lauded projects Caine already made a name for himself, as a man capable of anything. From the various bop-forms to free jazz: this musical centipede manipulates all genres to his liking with great ease. In The Hague Uri Caine will perform with his trio. Drummer Ben Perowski is also worth the listening to.
