Dutch jazz does not get any more Dutch than the music of the Willem Breuker Kollektief. In the 60's Breuker brought the revolution to bebop-land. The establishment was to be put to the sword. And thus it was done. The new wind blown into the country by Breukers' clarinets and saxophones was refreshing and eclectic. The Kollektief has the outline of a small big band and matches ecstatic free jazz with gloomy, theatrical music in the style of Kurt Weill. But there is also always a comic element present in circus Breuker. Hats, flags and horns are the attributes for a form of fun only Breuker and his men can get away with. Breuker also composes many movie scores. His co-operation with Dutch movie maker Johan van der Keuken is already legendary. At the festival Breuker brings a set of compositions, written between 1967 and 1994 for Van Der Keukens' movies. During the performance, fragments of the movies will be shown.
